About This Service

A VMC fixture holds a casting in the exact position required for machining, ensuring all holes, faces, and bores are produced in the correct location relative to each other. A poorly designed fixture is the single biggest cause of dimensional scatter in machined castings — even when the VMC and tooling are perfect.

At Super Innovation, we design and manufacture VMC fixtures using 3D CAD — simulating the clamping forces, locating surfaces, and datum scheme before machining a single chip. We also manufacture complete special purpose machines (SPMs) — from shell core shooters to gravity die casting machines and water/air leakage testing rigs. If your foundry or machine shop needs a custom solution, we build it.

Our Process

01

Datum Scheme & Clamping Design

We review the machined casting drawing and select the 3-2-1 locating datum scheme. Clamping forces are calculated to hold the part without distortion during heavy cuts.

3D CAD Design & Simulation

Full 3D CAD model of the fixture — including locating pins, clamps, base plate, and tooling access clearances. Simulated with the casting model to verify all features are accessible.

Machining & Assembly

Fixture body machined on VMC to ±0.005mm. Locating pins, rest pads and clamps fitted and verified against master casting. Trial machining run performed.

Proving & Handover

Fixture proved with 5–10 sample castings. Dimensional report shows all machined features in tolerance. Fixture dispatched with layout drawing and setup instructions.

A VMC fixture is a precision device that holds a casting in a specific position and orientation during CNC machining. Without a fixture, the casting would move or shift during cutting, causing dimensional errors. Our fixtures use precision locating pins on datum surfaces and clamps that hold the part rigidly without distorting it.
